We go up the whole east coast on the beach. The first stop is in Eurong to get some fresh water and call the only mecanic on the island. We find his sort of garage not far fom there: it strikes us as a cliché of a lost place. Cars are more or less rusted and taken apart, tools and equipment lies about and make up a scenic décor. The guy is not surprising: laid back, with calendars of naked women and 4x4 accidents on the wall. His mates are a good laugh as well: monsters doped with beer, with tatoos and a shaved head. One of them has a beer protector made of leather and with nails, the other a heavy metal shirt. The mecanic waits for the wheel to cool down, and I am told I should not take pictures. Indeed, a sign filled with ironic phrases indicates all the crazy prices and the dos and donts resulting from meeting tourists: 110$ a picture, don't ask the guy to tell his story, "when your wheel is punctured, you've got a flat tire", etc. A little walk around lets me see the small fire brigade and a huge spider. We stop on the beach a bit later to walk up a path that leads to lake Wabby. The climb thought the forest is calm and we reach the green lake, nested in a beautiful gumtree forest, and which is progressivelyovertaken by a big yellow sand dune. We see catfish and a turtle, and then go swim to freshen up and get rid of sand, salt and sweat. I snorkel a little as I cross the lake but hardly see anything. Quentin takes and camera and waits in the water to take a picture of the 4 crazy guys we are as we run down the dune naked with our swimming suit on the head before jumping in the water. After all these emotions (for the other tourists!), we head back and I look at the vegetation all the way. We move on to the Maheno shipwreck, a metal structure caressed by the waves. We do funny pictures and play rugby a little. The tide is rising - we have 3 hours before and 3 hours after low tide to drive on the beach. We pass in front of the Pinnacles, beautiful colored cliffs, and then arrive in Indian Head, a rocky cliff reaching into the sea. We go around it inland - the wheels have a hard time but we get through to the camping ground where we agree to stay as camping on the beach is forbidden. We set up the tents and start cooking dinner, and I rush to the top of Indian Head.
