End of the walk

Buddha of the Wat Na Phra Meru

Playing cards beneath a bridge
This tree has taken over a stupa

Harmonious mix of nature and culture

After this relaxed walk, I cross the river to Wat Na Phra Meru where there is a Buddha statue hailed as the most beautiful in the city. As I walk in the back of the temple, I see a tree covering magnificently a stoupa with its roots. This wraps up the tour I had planned, so I have lunch and head back on foot to the boat jetty, where taking one on my own would be too expensive. I take a public tuk-tuk and pay the normal price back to the bottom of the bridge. There, I see people who live beneath it playing cards, a couple on a motorcycle offers a beautiful smile, and I pick up a teenager's cap that fell off as he drove by on his motorcycle... the bridge of friendship in a way.

Not far away is the train station, where I wait half an hour for a train which brings me back to Bangkok asleep. In towm, I finish the day by going to a huge shopping center where all the young gather around mobile phone accessories, then I head back with the skytrain having checked my e-mail. The evening comes to a quiet end in a restaurant close to Michel's place, and where Thais gather to socialise and drink rhum and local whisky with karaoke music in the background.
