The palace is famous for being the biggest teak wood building in the world, built by order of Rama V as his residence. I arrive between two guided visits so I have some lunch with guides and drivers surprised to see me amongst them. The tour then starts in the luxurious property in European style adapted to the country's culture. The sections are differentiated by the color in which the teak wood is painted: sometimes of good taste, sometimes a mere accumulation of personal affects and precious material. All in all, the place is pleasant thanks to this architectural mix enabling light to come in from hundreds of windows opening up on the garden.

After the visit, I walk around in the park and by the small houses built for the princesses. I reach the throne building and return to see the Thai dances. Before it begins, the girls and women wait next to the scene, one of them sculpting some fruit, another skillfully arranging a bouquet, some looking at an elder's thin fingers, and two small girls chatting in a corner. I am absorbed by all theses scenes until the show starts, with a funny little girl sitting next to me.
