Here I am in the south of Australia since a few days. Not having been able to book on Wednesday evening to leave the next day for days in the desert with a 4x4, I decide to book this tour for the following week with a departure from Adelaide. In an hour and a half, I set up a great journey from Sydney to Cairns going through the south and the center of Australia.

The night trip to Melbourne is fine - it's a bit strange to leave Sydney after a surreal week in the welcoming apartment of Quentin, Ron and Erwan. I had a little moment of hesitation before leaving on my own, but the habits came back quickly. Barely under the guidance of the guy of the Great Ocean Road tour, I already begin to feel I haven't filled up my week before the 4x4 trip enough. I start to draw up plans which are a bit far fetched, in order to see more of this south coast which I hadn't intended to visit. I manage to book a night bus leaving just after the 2 days of the GOR, connecting in Adelaide with a shuttle to Kangaroo Island, where the next tour could pick me up a day later, leaving me time to dive and see pinguins at night... Needless to say it's a bit tight and I'm not sure if I can pull it off.

The Great Ocean Road tour lives up to the promises of the brochures I only read later - I didn't expect anything. First of all, I see my first (live) kangaroos, walking around on the golf of Anglesea, very close to the golfers. It's quite a peculiar scene. We then go in the hills covered with gum trees and see koalas sleeping in them close by, barely awaken by our presence. The day is off to a good start then, and I'm delighted. More nature as I take a horse ride through a beautiful green valley, crossing many creeks before we reach the beach where we can let the horses run... with us on it. Magnificent landscape and good sensations obviously. All of this is nice and cool, taking it at a mild Australian pace, as we relax along this coast with its lovely beaches and cliffs. The evening ends up in the restaurant and bar of where we're sleeping.
