I awake to the sound of a young man calling his goats in a chant, and see him through my window walking on the treetops! This place is truly magical, inhabited by the soul of the ancient Greeks, and that of all the other civilisations that have embraced the land. I realise there is a cliff on the other side of the stream, on top of which I see the goats trotting around, and the shepherd come and go. I stare in a sleepy awe at the deep blue sky, a promise of a beautiful day in this Garden of Eden. After morning tea, to which the others have gradually gathered, we stroll down to the water to dare a swim. I am joined by a few in a clear and fresh pond, a little distance away from the water mill that generates the electricity needed locally. A frog swims off as we fool around in this unbelievable setting. By the time we are finished splashing around, many Turkish families have arrived to enjoy a picnic in this cool setting. Tariq and I have time to share a freshly made gözleme (a type of salty pancake filled with cheese and herbs), before we head to the ancient Greek site of Assos.
